Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

X Truck manufacturers are confident that the slump in truck and attic sales has bottomed out. For the fourth month in succession registrations are up on 1991 levels.

According to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, 3,130 trucks and artics were registered during October, representing a 1.6% increase on the same time last year. However, at 26,501 the total for the year so far is still down on the 1991 figure of 27,705.

The SMMT figures also show that registrations of CVs as a whole, rose by 5.3% during October to 15,465.

"What is happening is a slow return to confidence in one or two sectors," says ERF marketing director Rod England, Sales of tractors and 16-17-tonners are picking up, he says, while six and eight-wheeler sales are still suffering because of the slump in the building industry.

Gibb Grace, product and environmental affairs manager at Leyland Daf, agrees; "It is very unlikely now that the increases are just a blip," he says. "Manufacturers are still looking for growth in 1993."
