Geest shift

▪ Geest North Sea Line has signed up with ECT to use its Margriet container site in Rotterdam from the beginning of next year. The company has been forced to move from Unitcentre's Heijplaat terminal because the City of Rotterdam requires the site for other purposes.

US exit • Transport Development Group has completed its withdrawal from the US market by selling Wilhig Freight Lines back to its management for £11.2 million ($17.3m). TDG says the loss on the sale is covered in an extraordinary £15m provision made in 1991. Its efforts will now be concentrated on its European operations.

Spanish line

Ni From January to March next year Brittany Ferries' freight division Truckline will operate a once-weekly minter Spanish service from Portsmouth to Santander on the 23,000-ton Bretagne. The service will return to Plymouth in March, when the capacity will be doubled for the summer.

• Fashion Logistics, Tibbett & Britten's garment distribution division, has become sole nominated carrier for Makro Self Service Wholesalers' 21 stores. Previously Fashion Logistics and TNT Retail Express worked for Makro. Tihbett & Britten has also won a seven-year food distribution contract in South Africa which is worth about gam a year.
