Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IT'S COMMERCIAL MOTOR • The idea that three men from Commercial Motor should take the most recent addition to our fleet, namely a MAN 16.362 tractive unit which my brother, Robin had painstakingly spray-painted only two weeks earlier, and disappear with it at midnight to some deserted lay-by where those same would, I suspected, probably inexpertly tamper with it and render it inoperable, perhaps with all the glee of boy scouts on their first night's camp, did not immediately appeal to me!

The point of the exercise, I was told, was that one of these three would phone the manufacturer's back-up

service, tell them all they needed to know, and then sit there, possibly all night, to see if and how anyone came to repair it. At first I was at a loss to find what, if any, benefit it all might be to Shaw's Transport. Having never before use the MAN rescue service we were even apprehensive as to the possible outcome.

As it turned out, however, I was very impressed by the cheerful and efficient service provided by the MAN dealer, from my first call to signing the service engineer's book about one and a half hours later when he set off to return to his base about 90lun away.

As for the three men from Commercial Motor, having now seen the range of vehicles involved and the expert way the exercise was carried out, I would say it must be a useful and worthwhile survey for all of us, from the manufacturer to his distributor and the operator. Certainly in our case, MAN has done itself no harm

at all when we come to think of future purchases and service. Stan Shaw
