• Scania is developing a new bus engine which it claims will meet the demand for lower nitrious oxide enunissions in the USA for the 1990s. The chargecooled diesel — designated the DSC1104 — develops 187kW (254hp) at 1,800rpm and has a peak torque of 1185Nm (8741bft) at 1,100rpm.
The new engine will become available in 1988 and meets the European limit for Nitrous Oxides (N0x) — that is 40% of regulation ECE R49 maximum limit.
Five test buses fitted with the DSC11 are already running on evaluation trials in Sweden. Scania says that further cleaning of exhaust gases is not possible without a particle trap.
