tachographs? I thought that these should be fitted on new vehicles from last January yet I see reports of them being removed from vehicles in the Birmingham area.
ANew vehicles and those carrying dangerous goods should have been fitted with tachographs from January 1 last, according to EEC law. The British Government has not yet made regulations to bring this into force in the UK but vehicles operating to the Continent should be fitted with the instrument. It is necessary for the DoT to licence instrument fitting and calibration centres before regulations can be made for their use in this country. This has not yet been done.
