British truck manufacturer. During September, production of British Leyland lorries dropped and the numbers of imports rose.

Total production of Britain's lorrymakers dropped from 7,286 in September 1975 to 6,858 this year while imports rose by 123 per cent over the same period to £11.8m.

The only bright light on the British production front was at Ford where production climbed from 2,383 in September last year to 2,614 this year.

But Leyland production fell from 2,669 to 2,252 in September this year.

Exports of British trucks and components rose to £164.2m compared with imports of £63.8m.
