Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• There is no proposal to integrate the operations of BRS Parcels Ltd and National Carriers Ltd; and reports of large-scale redundancy as a direct and immediate consequence of proposed operational changes in the State road parcels set-up are not true. These two unequivocal statements appear in a draft notice issued by the Joint Trade Union Advisory Council—which has yet to be approved by the trade unions involved. The draft notice to staff followed a meeting of the JTUAC on November 3.

Says the notice, the prospects for the companies involved are bright, the risk of losing traffics should be negligible, and the consequences of redundancy and job replacement can be better contained by the proposed developments than by any other alternative.

BRS Parcels and NCL. it says, will continue marketing and operating distinctive services, and new markets will be attacked to provide growth, "The implementation of the changes to BRS Parcels and NCL services would be progressive. It has never been intended that it will happen overnight. . . ."

Capital will be made available in support of plans to ensure that the branches and depots of the companies are properly equipped to make the maximum impact in marketing their services.

The JTUAC says it believes that, because of the timing of the developments, the number of staff eventually displaced will be few.
