Mainly Small Units Reported This Week Stowmarket Company Buy—and Assign—More

APART from one fairly substantiat purchase in Scotland—that of 17 vehicles, with a total unladen weight of 92 tons, by Mr. S. Anderson, Newhouse—most of the units reported this week as having been bought from British Road Services comprise only one, two and three vehicles.

The name of 0. G. Barnard and Sons, Ltd., Stowmarket, again appears as a purchaser, but as with the other vehicles taken over by this company, they have been assigned to other operators. The company have informed The Commercial Motor that they are not at present operating as haulage contractors. Among other things, they make trailers.

SCOTLAND

Seventeen vehicles (92 tons) have been purchased by Mr. S. Anderson, Newhouse

Pentland Garage, Ltd., Loanhead, who have bought 17 vehicles, including an articulated outfit (791 tons) based at Wallyford, have made over the following :— Five (251 tons) to Mr. W. G. D. Pollock, Edinburgh; one (51 tons) to Mr. William Stewart, Dalkeith; one (41 tons) to United Transport Industries, Ltd., Edinburgh; two, including an articulated outfit (7/ tons), to Dalkeith Transport and Storage, Ltd., Dalkeith ; one (3 tons) to Mr. Alexander M. Wright, Dalkeith; and one (5 tons) to Mr. J. A. Graham. Greenlaw. who has assigned it to Mr. Pollock, The Scottish Licensing Authority has also granted special A licences to Mr. John Glen, Meiklemyre Farm, Dairy, Ayrshire, for two vehicles (101 tons); Messrs. Southern Transport, Symington, three (t21 tons) assigned by Messrs. Patterson Bros., Symington; London Scottish Transport, Ltd., Glasgow, three (9/ tons) based at Alloa, assigned by J. and D. Govan (Trans-port). Ltd., Glasgow; Mr. John Campbell, 126 Montgomery Street, Irvine, two (91 tons); Mr. James Millar, Abington, one (3 tons); Mr. J. L. T. White, Abington, one (3 tons); Waldie and Sons, Ltd., Edinburgh, one (4 tons); Mr. George More, Larkhall. one (3 tons); A. L. Hodgson (Northern Allied Transport and Trading Co.), Melkinthorpe, two (12 tons 7 cwt.); and J. Forman, Ltd., Back Roseberry Crescent, Jesmond, five (32 tons).

Mr. L. Norman, 171 Westgate, Guisborough, has bought one vehicle "(4 tons 19 cwt.); Messrs. B. B. and A. D. Thomas (Thomas Bros.), 28 Granville Terrace, Redear, one (2 tons 18 cwt.); Messrs. J. Langstaff and J. Smart (Longstaff and Smart), 34 Alston Crescent, Sunderland, one (2 tons 16 cwt.); Messrs. W. P., L., W. and E. Bell (W. P. M. L. Wilson (Little Strickland Trading Co., Ltd.), Little Strickland, near Penrith, has bought three Bedford 7-tonners and a Thornycroft from the Dundee depot of British Road Services.

Four vehicles (301 tons) bought by Regent Garage and Engineering Co. (Widnes), Ltd., Deacon. Road, Widnes, have been divided as follows:—Two (I41 tons) to Mr. E. Robinson, Park House Garage, Parlane Street, St. Helens, and two (151 tons) to Messrs. J. C. and W. H. Jones (Jones Bros.), Deacon Road, Widnes.

YORKSHIRE

Hewson Bros. (Hull), Ltd., 27 High Street, Hull, have bought six lorries, three of which 'are articulated outfits' and Hewson Bros., Station Road Hotel, }Lowden, two, which have been assigned to Hewson Bros. (Howden), Ltd., of the same address.

One of two lorries purchased by Mr. J. Bell (Bells Transport Services), 23 Leeds Road, Windhill, Shipley, has been assigned to Mr. F. Newton, 68 Tyresal Crescent, Bradford.

Other purchasers reported by our Yorkshire correspondent are: Messrs. M. Ross and Sons, Eastfield, Fogandenny, Perth, who have acquired a vehicle based at Bradford; H. Wood and Sons, Ltd., Wormal Street, Heekinondwike, three; R. Earl and Sons (Transport), Ltd., 47 Amberley Road, Sheffield, four; J. Stubbs and Sons, Ltd., 37 Hull Road, Anlaby, near Hull, one; and Mr. G. Grace, 4 Chapel Lane, South Elmsall, near Pontefract, one, assigned to Mr. G. B. Hindle, Gordon Garage, Nelson Street, Bradford. EAST MIDLANDS Barkers Traffic,Services, Ltd., 10 London Road,-New Balderton, Newark, have been successful with yet another tender, this time for 14 vehicles, comprising six Albion eightwheelers, an Atkinson 12-tonner, a Seddon six-wheeler and six four-wheeled vehicles. It is understood that most of these have been assigned, and that Mr. E. D. Walker, 'East Markham, Newark, has bought some of them, The names of the other purchasers are not known.

Mr. J. P. Regis, New Cross Road, Stamford, has acemired unit 444 (Crowland) comprising one vehicle (3 tons).

EASTERN COUNTIES

Another five vehicles, including three articulated outfits (17 tons) and one additional, have been purchased by 0. G. Barnard and Sons, Ltd., Stowmarket. The unit concerned (2743) was based at Fordham, Ely. Barnard's are not at the moment operating as hauliers and are assigning all the vehicles they purchase.

Mr. L. Judd, Great Hallingbury, Bishops Stortford, has taken over a lorry (3 tons) from Mr. W. Taylor, Leytonstone, London, Eli.

Norwich unit 474, comprising one vehicle (31 tons), has been bought by Mr. 0. J. H. Smith, Barrow, Bury St. Edmunds. .

The Eastern Licensing Authority has issued special A licences to the following: Mr. C. E. Ground, Cradge Batik Road, Spalding, for 10 vehicles and a trailer (42 tons); Mr. F. W. Daniels, 3 Ivel Road, Sandy, one (3 tons); Knowles Transport, Ltd., one (31 tons), assigned by Mr. G. Knowles of the same address; Mr. G. D.
