Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DRIVERS in the wholesale grocery and provision trade have been awarded a pay increase of 8s. a week. In the London area, the new adult weekly wage rates, according to vehicle carrying capacity, are: Less than 30 cwt., £7 6s.; 30 cwt.-2 tons, £7 8s.; 2-31 tons, £7 13s.; 35-5 tons, £7 15s.; over 5 tons, £7 18s.

Elsewhere the new rates are: Less than 30 cwt., £6 19s. grade 1 and £6 18s. grade 2; 30-cwt.-2 tons, £7 2s. and £7; 2-31 tons, £7 7s. and £7 3s.; 31-5 tons, £7 9s. and £7 5s. „Rates for drivers of vehicles of over 5 tons are subject to local negotiation.

The wages councils for various retail trades have considered applications for increases. In the case of the drapery, furnishing and food trades, proposals are to be issued for advances of 6s. a week for male and 4s. 6d. for female workers.

Last Friday, the Retail Furnishing and Allied Trades Wages Council circulated proposals for increases in the wages of transport employees. They provide for a minimum wage of £6 15s. a week for workers of 21 years and over driving vehicles of 1-ton capacity or less in the London area, £6 10s. 6d. in provincial A areas and £6 3s. 6d. in provincial B areas. The proposed rates 88 for juniors are correspondingly lower.

Drivers of vehicles of 1-2-ton capacity are, it is proposed, to receive £6 19s. 6d. a week in London, £6 15s. in A areas and £6 8s. 6d. in B areas. The comparable rates for drivers of vehicles over 2 tons and up to 5 tons are £7 3s. 6d., £6 19s. 6d, and £6 12s. 6d., and for the drivers of vehicles of more than 5 tons, £7 8s., £7 3s. 6d. and £6 us.

Agreement has been reached on an adjustment in pay rates for drivers employed by retail co-operative societies. It has been proposed that transport and dairy drivers be given an extra 12s. a week in London, whilst provincial A drivers should receive another Ils. and provincial B drivers, 10s. Members of the Transport and General Workers' Union have indicated assent to these suggestions.

With regard to workers covered by the transport agreement with the Co-operative Wholesale Society, Ltd., it has been recommended that London rates be advanced by 10s, a week and provincial wages by 8s.

The Minister of Labour is to be asked io make an Order for male workers in the milk distribution industry to be paid an extra 6s. a week and female employees 4s. 6d.
