TETLOW'S LICENCE SUSPENDED

FOLLOWING a hearing at which it was alleged that H. and J. Tetlow, Ltd., Flixton, had picked up passengers at an unauthorized point and had exceeded operations permitted to Blackpool and to the Manchester City Football Club's ground, the NorthWestern Traffic Commissioners have suspended the excursions and tours licence (No. C 23,472), held by the company, from November 1 and until January 31,1938.H The hearing was reported in The Commercial Motor dated October. 22.

SOLDIERS _MUST PAY IN FULL.

THE North Western Traffic Commissioners have declined to allow reduced fares to soldiers travelling on duty.

United Automobile Services, Ltd., applied for this concession in respect of its stage-carriage service from Newcastle-on-Tyne to Blackpool. The request was for a modification to allow a discount, not exceeding 25 per cent. on the authorized fare, to the appropriate department, in the case of H.M. Military Forces, travelling on duty on a warrant issued by their respective units.

FREE PASSES TO BE BANNED? "

IF I have the power, shall refuse, hut I am not certain of the position." In these words, Mr. W. Chamberlain, chairman of the North Western Traffic Commissioners, conveyed a shock to all the employees of transport undertakings who enjoy cheap or free travel facilities.

He was dealing with an application by the North Western Road Car Co., Ltd., for which it was stated that it had been realized that it might be held that the reduced fares allowed to employees should be endorsed upon the licences. The company had always allowed free passes once a month on the ordinary stage-carriage routes and one free pass to the seaside each year for an employee and his wife.

B48 Mr. Chamberlain, in stating his attitude towards the application, mentioned a Liverpool report of the extraordinary effect on revenue of free passes and he wanted to know what bearing they had on the fares which the public paid.
