AN extremely imposing exhibit is the rigid six-wheeler destined to carry 10 tons of goods. Not only is the design at the frame and bogie of great interest, but the crude-oil engine is one of the best-known power units in this category.

It has six cylinders, a bore and stroke of 105 inm. and 165 ram., and develops 70 b.h.p. The overhead valves are operated by push rods, and the supply of fuel is by a Bosch pump mounted on the off side of the engine and driven in tandem with the water pump from the distribution gear at the flywheel end. When the foot brake is applied, three cylinders at.e tut out so that the vacuum caused thereby is used to augment the .pedal pressure through the mewls of vacuum-servo cylinders.

-This chassis weighs approximately 5 tons and is mounted upon 40-in. by 10-in, pneumatic tyres. The exhibit in question carries a three-way Meiller tipping gear. in this form, when the body is of tha platform variety and an enrinsed cab is provided, the price is .Z2,245 without tyres.

The Meiller tipping gear is of the hydraulic type and operates through the medium of a telescope ram. Despite the presence of the body-lifting gear, space is found above the chassis and below the body to store a spare wheel complete with its tyre. A powerful jack is carried on the off side of the frame.

An engine exhibit of the type intended for service in the 3i-ton chassis is of interest to those who look for the coming a the crude-oil engine -for smaller vehicles. This chassis is not shown.

This power ueit is of the six-cylintiered type ; on the off side are located the water pump and dynamo, driven in tandem from the distribution gear at the flywheel end. Above the dynamo, and driven by a. separate shaft, is the Bosch fuel pump.

A special low-frame chassis intended for bus work is the type N46 with a 50-55 h.p. six-eylindered petrol engine having a bore and stroke of 80 mm. antl 130 mm., which gives a treasury rating of 23.8 h.p. The loading capacity of this model is 4 tons 5 cwt, whilst the chassis weight is 2 tons 1 cwt., and the tyre equipment consists of 32-in. by 6-in. pneumatics ; the wheelbase and track are, respectively, 13 ft. 4 ins. and 5 ft. 3 ins.

Another example of this chassis is shown with i 20-seater coupe-daville coach by Messrs. Murafords. It is equipped in a lavish style and is intended for high-class, long-distance service.
