ONE of the novelties in the Lally range is the new special passenger chassis with 11111 engine having six cylinders of 90 mm. bore and 130 mm. stroke. It is the intention of the maker to market this chassis for the most arduous service, such as in Alpine passes. For this reason six forward speeds are provided. The eardan shaft from the gearbox drives a spiral-bevel rear axle; the wheels carry 36-in. by 6-in. tyres ; the spare wheel is supplied without a tyre. The chassis weighs 2 tons 3 cwt. and it has a wheelbase of 16 ft. 5 ins., a front track of 5 ft. 1 in. and a rear, track of 5 ft. 9 ins. All the wheels are braked, a servo device being used to augment the driver's effort. The equipment includes a constant-voltage dynamo, an electric horn and starter.
The four-cylinder chassis is designed for 20-seater bodies. The engine has a R30 bore and stroke of 90 mm. and 130 mm. respectively, giving a capacity of 3.3 litres. On the chassis, which has a -weight of 1 ton 18 cwt. and a wheelbase of 12 ft. 9-hins., is mounted a de luxe service bus body emanating from the Duple factory.
A similar engine to that : f the 20seater is installed in the 5-ton goodscarrying chassis. It has a wheelbase of 14 ft. 9 ins, and disc wheels carrying 38-in. by 7-in, single tyres on the frmit wheels and 970 mm. by 160 mm. twin tyres on the rear wheels. Transmission is by cardan shaft and spiral-bevel gear. Four-wheel braking is provided, a servomechanism being used.
Another model, with 90 mm. by 130 mm. engine, is the type LCSB, for 26-seater coachwork. The general specification of this machine is the same as that of the foregoing model, but 32-in. by 6-in. pneumatic tyres are provided.
The TB2-type sweeper is a fourwheeled vehicle with a brush of split bamboo fibre rotated by bevel gears and chain from a shaft which is driven front the gearbox. The water tank has a capacity for 66 gallons and supplies a fine spray under pressure along the whole length of the brush, which is mounted at an angle of 30 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the chassis. The brush pressure on the roadway can he adjusted as desired.
A 725-gallon tank is mounted on the four-wheeled road-washing machine. The maximum width of spray is 60 ft. and the controlling lever is mounted in the driver's cab. This appliance can be used as a first-aid fire-engine.
At the time of goilig to press the only vehicle •on the stand was the 20-seater bus.
