Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ONLY passenger-carrying models are shown on the Gilford stand. A striking newcomer is the double-decker ; the chassis used for this vehicle is a development of the forward-control type, which has found such a wide market for work as the basis of 32-seater coaches and buses.

A Beadle double-saloon body is mounted on this new chassis and the overall height, when laden, is 13 ft. It carries 50 passengers, 26 on the lower deck and 24 in the upper saloon. In general, the specification of the chassis follows that of the other I68-type machines. A new six-eylindered engine is installed ; this has a bore and stroke of 314 ins. and 5 ins. respectively. It develops 100 b.h.p. Details of the engine design are pressure lubrication, magneto ignition, Zenith carburetter, pump and fan cooling and unit construction with the four-forward-speed gearbox. In the forward-control type the gearbox is inclined so that the selector control can run straight from the gate to the cover of the box. A quickacting filler cap, filter and dip-stick are found in the top of the box—all features which are appreciated by operators.

An underslung-worm axle is employed; this now embodies a dip-stick mounted in the centre of the filler cover.

The rear springs are of the semi-elliptic type with rebound clips. In the rearwheel drams are two sets of shoes mounted side by side ; one set is controlled by pedal through a Dewandre servo device, whilst the other set is hand-controlled. Gross air springs are used in conjunction with the front-axle springs. Luvax rebound dampers are fitted to the rear axle. Alcyl central lubrication is installed and the tyres are 36 ins. by 7 ins. The wheelbase of the normal-control type is now 16 ft. 8 ins. New features are the redesigned brakes —double-diameter shoe tracks are provided in -the drams—and the rear springs have been increased in length.

A Northumbria all-weather coach is exhibited on a foward-control chassis of this type, also a 26-seater de luxe saloon coach.

The CP6 low-load-line chassis for 20seater coachwork is shown stripped.. This embodies a larger six-cylindered engine than heretofore ; the bore and stroke are 31 ins. and 4i ins. respectively, the R.A.C. rating being 31.5 h-PUnit construction is the method adopted for the mounting of the engine and gearbox. .A multiple-plate clutch conveys the drive to the four-speed box and the driving axle is of the underslung-worm type. The internal-expanding brakes work in large . carbon-steel drums mounted in all four wheels. This model has a wheelbase of 13 ft 3 ins, and a track of 5 ft. 11 ins. The equipment includes a detachable bumper bar and a spare wheel and tyre. r_27
