maw latest product of the Chrysler _L works is the new 30-ewt. commercial chassis. It has only just become available in this country and it is fortunate that the first few machines have been reeeived here in-time for their exhibition at ' Generally speaking; the Fargo resembles the latest Chrysler car chassis in deSign, and it can be safely reckoned that it is equal to it in workmanship. The machine is not in the cheapest class, the chassis with Englishbuilt van body as shown on the stand being 'offered at 1419, hut the price is low considering the quality for -which Chrysler products are famous.
The -wheelbase is 11 ft. 1 in., the frame being of the orthodox pressedsteel type; slightly arched over the rear axle. The engine is a side-valve unit of 3-in, bore and 4i-in. stroke, and it is claimed to develop 55 blip. It has six cylinders and a four-hearing crankshaft. The single dry-plate clutch has a driven disc 91 ins, in diameter, the four-speed gearbox giving ratios of 5.66, 9.85, 19.92
and 37.19 to 1 forward and 44.6 to 1 reverse.
The engine, clutch and gearbox constitute a unit, which is suspended at four points in the main frame. The drive is conveyed to the spiral-bevel semi-floating rear axle by a two-piece tubular propeller shaft, incorporating three ball-and-trunnion universal joints, the shaft having a self-aligning steady bearing. The wood artillery wheels have demountable rims fitted with 31-in. by 5.4-in. tyres' at front and 324n. by 6-in. tyres at .rear; the spare wheel carries a_ 32-in.by 6-in. tyre and is housed in a sub-frame at the rear. The frame height is 2 ft. 1 in.
Within a few weeks a 15-cwt. model is expected to be available in this country. It will resemble the larger machine in most respects.
Visitors to the stand should not fall to note the oblique cross-shaft conveying the drive from the camshaft to the ignition distributor and oil pump on the Fargo engine.
