rilHE Dodge Brothers' 'range is particularly complete and several good examples represent it at Olympia this
year. For the sake of simplicity it should be borne in mind that the 25-cwt., 30-cwt. and 2-ton goods models, and the LER-type 20-seater all have the same model power unit, namely, the six-cylindered side-valve engine of 3k-in. bore and 3k-in. stroke, with an R.A.C. rating of 27.34 h.p. The REStype 3-ton chassis and the HEX 26seater seen on the stand both have the larger model six-cylindered power unit of 3k-in. bore and 44-in. stroke. The smallest model, namely, the 15-cwt. express van, has a four-cylindered engine of 3k-in. bore and 41-in, stroke' the Treasury rating in this case being 21.03 h.p. Every one of the machines has hydraulic brakes on all four wheels.
Dealing first with the 15-cwt. van, the chassis is a new model, having been introduced in this country at the end of August. It has a wheelbase of 9 ft. 1 in. and a track of 4 ft. 8 ins., and in its complete form the van sells for £270.
The engine develops no less than 45 b.h.p. at 2,000 r.p.m.., and the threebearing crankshaft has a diameter of 21 ins., the total length of the bearings being 6k ins. Preasure lubrication and crankcase ventilation are but two of the features incorporated, there being several other ingenious points in this, as
in all the latest Dodge Brothers vehicles, it will be noticed that the suction for the vacuum tank which supplies petrol to the carburettor is obtained from the oil pump in such a manner that so soon as theoil level reaches the danger mark the supply of petrol ceases and the driver receives timely warning.
The 25-cwt. vanhas a wheelbase of .10 ft.. a three-speed gearbox and, of course, complete electrical equipment. The 30-cwt. model has a wheelbase of 11. ft. 1 in. and it should be mentioned that a similar type of chassis, but with
four-cylindered engine of 31-in. bore and 41-in. stroke, has just become available, although this is not visible at Olympia. . The two-tonner has a wheelbase of 12 ft. 6 ins., the LEB-type 2(1seater being similar, except that its wheelbase is 1 ft. 3 ins. longer. The RES three-tonner also has a wheelbase of 13 ft. 9 ins., that of the HEX 26seater coach being still longer, namely, 15 ft. 5 ins. Both the passenger bodies shown are of loyal construction, their appearance being extremely handsome.
