Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A QUARTETTE of these well-known American chassis is staged by the British concessionnaire. They constitute the latest arrivals from the American factory and all are designed for goods-carrying or passenger service, but the model which will be equipped with a 32-seater body will probably find its largest market in the latter sphere, as it is specially arranged to comply with M. of T. requirements.

The smallest model, known as type JO, has a six-cylindered 26.8 h.p. engine' with a bore and stroke of 85 mm. and 118 ram. respectively. This chassis is designed to carry a 80-cwt. pay-load or a 14-seater passenger-carrying body. Features of its specification include 32-in. by 6-in. tyres, a four-speed gearbox, four-wheel brakes, an electric-lighting and starting set, an oil purifier and an air cleaner. The chassis weighs 1 ton 11 ewt and has a wh .elbase of 12 ft. 5 ins.

Next in order of size is the model. JBC, for 35-cwt. loads or 20 passengers. In this case the engine is similar to that of the foregoing chassis—of the sixcylindered 26.8 h.p. type. The chassis weight is I ton 15 cwt. and the wheelbase is 14 ft., whilst the track measures 4 ft. 8 ins. Twin rear tyres are t those fitted to all wheels being of 32-in. by 6-in. dimensions. An oil purifier and an air cleaner are also supplied with this chassis.

When a goods-carrying body is fitted to the SO-type Brockway the 1ermissiblo pay-load is three tons, or, for passenger work, 26 seats is the maximum. The six-cylindered 35 h.p. engine has a bore and stroke of 100 mm. and 110 ram. re

spectively ; it drives a four-speed unitmounted gearbox. This engine is of the overhead-valve type and incorporates an oil purifier and air cleaner. Bumpers are supplied with the chassis and the braking is on all four road wheels. The wheelbase is 14 ft. 7 ins. Twin tyres are fitted to the rear wheels ; they are of 32-in. by 6-in. dimensions.

A larger engine-100 min, bore and 130 mm. stroke—is used in the IEB model. The Treasury rating h 37.2 h.p. and the maximum loads are 32 passengers or 3 tons 10 cwt. of goods. The wheelbase is 16 ft. 8 ins, and the track 5 ft. 111 ins. As this machine will, in most cases, be used for passenger work, the suspension is damped by Luvax mechanisms. It should be noted that this chassis is built with regard to turning circle and the other vital dimensions to comply with Ministry of Transport regulations.

This chassis is of imposing appearance, the radiator contour being par

ticularly pleasing. The frame lines follow modern practice in every respect ; the central portion is horizontal and the arches over the rear axle are of easy camber. This enables the low-loading line to be maintained with any type of body.
