TISITORS who are interested in V the operation of taxicabs are provided on this stand with an opportunity for inspecting several examples Of the well-known Beardmore taxicab. Two of the models have standard bodywork, one being finished in red and the

other in blue. A third chassis is equipped with a type of body which has sot, so far, been widely employed in connection with taxicabs, i.e., having a Sun-or-Shade sliding head. The polished chassis on view enables the technical details of the machine to be closely studied.

A four-cylindered engine is employed, this having a bore of 72 mm. and a stroke of 120 mm.; the piston-swept volume is 1,954 c.c., giving a Treasury rating of 12.8 h.p. At 1,050 r.p.m. the engine speed is 20 m.p.h. The cylinders are cast en bloc, and are integral with the crankcase, the cylinder head being detachable. The ciankshaft runs in three bearings. Power is transmitted through the medium of aSingle-plate Ferodo clutch and a four-speed gearbox, the latter component being a separate unit. The gear lever is situated on tho right-hand side.

The back axle is of the fully floating, pattern, the spiral-bevel drive being housed in a banjo-type casing. Regarding the brakes, the pedal operates shoes in drums on all four wheels, the handbrake lever actuating shoes in drums on the rear wheels. All brakes are of the internal-expanding type and are fully compensated. The frame is of channel-section pressed-steel, and is braced by four cross-members. Semielliptic springs are used at the front and the rear, the latter being underslung and taking the driving stress.

Under the bonnet there is a tank which has a capacity for approximately 74 gallons of fuel, including a reserve"' supply. A filter and control tap are situated in a convenient position on the near-side frame member. Steel artillerytype detachable wheels carry 30-in. by 5-in, pneumatic tyres.
