THIS is the first appearance at Olympia of this manufacturer. The Pilot chassis—for bodies not exceeding 26-seaters—has been on the road for the greater part of a year, whilst the Commodore for 32-seater bodies is an entirely new model.
Dealing first with the Pilot ; this is sold as a normal-control or forwardcontrol machine ; the chassis exhibit is of the former type, but the sunshine Parlour coach, with a Willowbrook body, is of the latter variety. Incidentally, this coach has divan seats upholstered in moquette and tht. interior finish is in walnut inlaid with black.
Overhead valves are used in the sixcylindered, 25. h.p. engine ; the output is 54 b.h.p. •at 2,000 r.p.m. Pressure lubrication is employed, even the valve gear being supplied by this means. The drive to the four-speed gearbox is through a single-plate clutch. The steady bearing of the two-piece propeller shaft is carried in a rubber-insulated trunnion. The tyres are of 36-in. by 6-in. dimensions. The frame line is arranged to give a height of 1 ft. 11i ins. laden; on the off-side frame-member is mounted the Dewandre servo motor,
which operates the brakes in all four wheels. A master adjustment is provided behind the servo. Separate shoes in the rear-wheel drums are expanded by band lever.
The grease-gun points are grouped for ease of access. With a wheelbase of 15 ft. 6 ins., the body space is 17 ft. 11 ins. A mechanical tyre pump can be supplied if required.
In many respects the larger chassis— the Commodore—follows the lines of the aforementioned machine. Forward control only is specified, however, and the six-cylindered engine has side-by-side valves. At 2000, r.p.m. _the output is 75 b.h.p., but the R.A.C. rating is 36 h.p. The separate cylinder block is cast monobloc and has a detachable head. The unit-mounted gearbox is inclined towards the off side so that the gearcontrol rod has a straight run from the gate to the selector housing of the box. Standard tyre equipment is 36-in. by 6-in, singles and twins, but 38-in. by 7-in. or 38-in, by 8i-in. tyres may be fitted at an extra charge.
On examples of the Commodore chassis are two striking passenger bodies ; one is a 32-seater service bus with a double-folding door at the front on the near side and an emergency door at the rear. The other machine is a 26-seater luxury coach for long-distance service. The body is of the coupe-devine variety with a disappearing roof to the driver's cab.
