TRUCK SALES continue to rise according to igures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, which show a seventh successive monthly increase.

Sales of vehicles over six tonnes were up 54.9% compared to the same month last year, bringing the total rise in sales for the year to date in the sector to 48.4%. Several manufacturers continue to enjoy healthy growth with MAN leading the increase, up 178% for the yearto-date, with 1,314 registrations. Volvo (up 152%) and Renault (up 77%) are also showing strong gains. However, DAF and Scania still top the monthly sales charts with 800 and 470 sales respectively in April.

April also saw sales of light CVs continue to improve, with vans under 3.5 tonnes up 21% on the same month last year and up 29% yearon-year.

Ford continues to lead the pack with 4,769 registrations in April and 24,879 for the year, followed by Vauxhall and Volkswagen who have increased sales by 14% and 13%.

Nissan’s 80% increase over April 2010 sales is the largest gain, with 733 vehicles sold last month.
