Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Since Renault's debut in last year's Truckzone the company has been flying. Here we look at what's in store from the French at this year's event.

Clearly something's going right at Renault : The Fl Team scooped the first four Championship races in the season in a row, the van division posted its best ever UK results for March and the new Renault Trafic double deck dropside vehicle has successfully won the prestigious SED Award for Excellence at the show. Things are looking good.

Although the overall market was 1% down during March Renault bucked the trend in impressive style with light commercial vehicle (<3.5T) sales up 33% compared with the same month in 2004 (3,027 units against 2256).As the number one van brand in Europe, Renault aims to take an even greater slice of the market also came a step closer with its market share growing from 4.7% to 6.3% in the same month.

Proving that March's result wasn't merely a case of a flood of new purchases as a result of the registration plate change, Renault's overall year-to-date performance in the UK has been just as impressive.

The extensive Renault van line-up is obviously gaining a keen following with Kangoo Van, Trafic and Master models all now complemented by a plethora of new niche models introduced in the recent months. Visitors to the Renault stand will be able to view a selection of those models best suited to construction applications as well as some of the newer releases.

With seating for the driver, five passengers and a versatile load area of up to 4.13m3, the new Trafic Crewcab Van has been designed to appeal to those customers seeking increased people space as well as equipment and materials — a situation with which many in the construction sector will be familiar.

The rear storage compartment can accommodate a load length of up to 2.05m while the multi-function 3-seat rear bench can be tipped or removed to increase space still further if necessary. As with all Renaults, useful storage areas abound in the cabin, with double side storage next to the passenger seats. This version is available in low roof configuration, but with the choice of short or long wheelbase and three smooth and economical class-leading powerplants, two diesel: 1.9 dCi 100hp, 25 dCi 140hp and one petrol 2.0 120hp respectively.

More demanding terrain

The new rear-wheel-drive Master sits at the top of Renault's van range and, says Renault, is suited to more demanding road and site conditions requiring extra traction. In the UK it is available in single, double cab, and panel van versions, with a choice of diesel engines from the outset: 3.0 dCi 120 hp and 3.0 dCi 160 hp.

The New Master RWD carries over the basic engineering specifications from its front wheel drive stablemate, Renault-Nissan Alliance engines, and a ladder-frame chassis shared with Renault Trucks. With its twin rear wheels this vehicle has been designed specifically for tradespeople, small and mid-sized construction companies, and industry, while its inher ent design qualities will also appeal to local authorities.

The latest innovation from Renault is the new six-speed semi-automatic `Quickshift6' gearbox which will be available on both the Trafic and Master range. Quickshift technology combines the performance and operating economy of a manual gearbox with the ease of use of an automatic transmission and is expected to account for around 5% of total sales in each range.

The Quickshift6 transmission is also expected to give better fuel economy, with Renault claiming a potential fuel consumption reduction of up to 8% on Master and 10% on Trafic compared with the manual gearbox.

During the first three months of this year, sales of the ever-expanding KangooVan,Trafic and Master ranges increased 13%, 12% and 48% respectively. With the impact of the new Quickshift6 semi-automatic gearbox, a raft of new innovative conversions and a successful SED Show on the cards, sales are likely to be boosted still further later in the year.
