British Bakeries has given the 46 CV drivers at its Crawley depot 90 days to leave the company or accept a reduction in pay of at least £90 a week.

British Bakeries has issued staff with termination of employment notices after they rejected its proposal to decrease the commission they currently receive (CM 20-26 January), Under British Bakeries' nationwide proposals, 17 driver-salesmen at Crawley will lose commission entirely and become direct delivery drivers.

They will handle deliveries to supermarkets, and will no longer be able to take a day off in lieu for working a six-day week.

The remaining 22 salesman will receive much lower commission payments for the deliveries they make to smaller shops, although they will be given time off for weekend working. In addition seven staff are to be made redundant.
