IN Well done, yet again, Commercial Motor and the other organisations for another excellent Truckfest. It is becoming an essential on the calendar of many truckers around the country. It was marred, if that is the word to use, by rain — but this in itself is becoming a tradition. Truckfest without rain? Impossible!
I attended for the first time this year as a competitor with what, to many, would be classed as a virtually standard fleet truck. Humble beginnings, but I was proud to do so. Working trucks being my forte, I was pleased to see the very commendable high standard to which trucks were presented for judging. Being a newcomer I enjoyed the great atmosphere that was apparent everywhere. I was parked up near Sandy McCracken's team and a more pleasant and friendly bunch you couldn't wish to meet.
However, nothing in this world is perfect, and here comes the gripe. On the Monday morning there was an appalling lack of breakfast facilities. The competitors' marquee didn't open until 9 o'clock and that, to most drivers, is midday bearing in mind the times we are normally on the road. May I suggest a breakfast tent for future occasions where a proper breakfast can be obtained.
Well done and I look forward to Truckfest 1989.
