DISCUSSING THE DISC • The future of disc brakes on commercial vehicles will be examined at an international conference in November.

The technical content of the event, organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, falls into five areas: design, installation, testing, operation and legislation. Papers will be presented by authors representing seven countries.

The conference is aimed particularly at designers and developers of disc-brake systems, pads and rotors and will be held at IMechE's London HQ. Latest developments and trends in traction-control technology for road vehicles will be reviewed at another IMechE conference in September, which is also intended mainly for designers and developers. For details contact Andree Johnson on 01-222 7899.

• The Bus Coach Council apologises for giving CM readers some misinformation. Coach and Bus '89 will be at NEC Birmingham in October (dates to be finalised) and not in Wales. Its coaching symposium will be in Wales, at the Holiday Inn, Cardiff on 17,18 and 19 February. Enquiries about both events to Philip Carlisle on 01-831 7546.
