TENDERS for new buses accepted by Blackpool Corporation transport committee include one for 15 Leyland single-deckers with semi-automatic transmission—the first singledeck buses to be ordered by the undertaking for many years. The new buses, costing £3,228 per chassis, plus a delivery charge of 2s. per vehicle mile for delivery to the coachbuilders, will join an all-Leyland double-deck fleet.
The transport committee has also accepted a tender for 15 Leyland PD3 double-deck bus chassis at a cost of £2,890 per chassis plus 2s. per vehicle mile delivery charge and the tender of Metropolitan-Cammell-Weymann Ltd. for 15 double-deck bodies at a cost of £3,810 per body.
Carlisle Objects; Carlisle Corporation is to oppose applications by Ribble Motor Services Ltd. and Cumberland Motor Services Ltd. to raise their bus fares.
Smoking ban?: Hartlepool transport committee is to consider a proposal to ban smoking on Corporation single-decker buses.
