Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ALTHOUGH competition from Scandinavian bodybuilders is nearly as intense as that from manufacturers in the Benelux countries, a little more success for UK makers can be recorded in this particular market. Among bodybuilders selling to these northern countries can be named Martin Walter, Canterbury Industrial Products, Lomas, B. Walker (Watford), Anthony Hoists, and Oswald Tillotson.

The latter company is selling the Rootes Highlift aircraft loader and five of these are operated by Scandinavian Airlines System Ltd. at Kastrup airport, Copenhagen. In view of the growing interest in containers, it is interesting to note that both Oswald Tillot son and Cravens Homalloy hope to export containers to Europe, and the latter company is establishing a foothold in Sweden.

On the passenger side little success can be recorded, because of the intense competition from local coachbuilders, although an outstanding exception is, of course, the sale of 250 Park Royal bodies to Stockholm Tramways. This order was secured in conjunction with Leyland Motors Ltd. and although Park Royal was a natural choice, being a Leyland Motor Corporation company, it is interesting to note that most bodybuilders, goods and passenger, reported that they prefer to make their approaches via the chassis manufacturers.

An isolated order at the moment, the Stockholm buses nevertheless establish a foothold in Scandinavia for Park Royal and it could well be that other orders will follow. Meanwhile, Duple Motor Bodies' Mr. Richard Church is also carrying out a survey of the prospects of selling to Scandinavian countries.—F.K.M.
