THE Perkins Four 99 oil engine ha been adopted by Vauxhall Motor Ltd., as optional equipment on thei Bedford CA-series of 10/12and 15-cwi vans and chassis. The Perkins unit add £130 to the prices of the standard petrol engined models, making the price of th short-wheelbase 10/12-cwt. van E58C compared with £450, whilst the long wheelbase 15-cwt. van with oil engin sells for £610, the petrol-engined versio: being priced at £480. Oil-enginet models weigh 160 lb. more than thc petrol-engined equivalents, but gros weight ratings remain unaltered.

No alterations to the chassis specifica tion are effected when the optiona Perkins unit is installed, the standard Bedford three-speed gearbox beint retained and the choice of two rear-axlc ratios remaining. As fitted by Vauxhall's, the Four 99 is rated to develop 42 b.h.p. (gross) at 3,600 r.p.m., with a gross torque output of 73 lb.-ft. a1 2,250 r.p.m.

Bedford vans equipped with this unit are distinguished 'from the standard petrol-engined models by a yellow and chrome badge on the radiator grille.
