Mr. Brian Pavey has been appointed technical manager of Burtonwood Engineesing Co., Ltd., of Warrington, Lancashire.
Mr. J. J. McCormick and Mr. F. W. Westcombe, joint sales managers, and Mr. Ian A. F. Craig, overseas manager. have been appointed local directors of the British Wagon Co., Ltd.
Mr. A. N. Turnbull has been appointed general sales manager, and Mr. H. C. Osborne, export sales manager, to the board of Crypton Equipment of Bridgwater, a company in the Metal Industries Group.
Mr; J. • Collins has been appointed • secretary of A. S. Tilley (Garage), Ltd., of West Street. Brighton, and its subsidiaries, Boxall and Collins Ltd., of Crawley, and Chandlers (1946), Ltd., of Burgess Hill and Uckfield.
Sir Graham Cunningham, who in July relinquishes the chairmanship of the Triplex Safety Glass Co., Ltd., has now resigned from the Economic Planning Board. Sir Graham had been .a member of the Board since its formation in July, 1947: Mr. Victor Skone-Rees has been appointed manager, Western Division, The Power Petroleum Co., Ltd. For the past two years he has been Automotive Products Manager at Head Office. Mr. Skone-Rees succeeds Mr. V. W. G. Day who has retired after 38 years' service with the company.
Mr. Gordon Smith, plant manager of the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Company's Wolverhampton factory, leaves shortly to take up the appointment of plant manager for Goodyear at the Luxembourg factory. Mr. Smith has been with Goodyear Great Britain since 1949.
Mr. Colin Bruce, formerly London manager of the Malta Aids to Industries Board, has been appointed managing director of Rambler AutOmobile Assembly Ltd., a new company recently set up in Malta for the assembly of Rambler American compact cars for sale in the Middle East and in East and West Africa. A number of the car components are, or shortly will be, of British manufacture.
Mr. J. 0. H. Bowman, for, some years head of the Austin Motor Co. Ltd.'s press and public relations department, has been appointed general public relations manager, F. Perkins, Ltd., with specific overseas P.R. responsibilities. Mr. Peter Hooper, press relations officer of the Perkins Group for the past seven years. has been promoted group press relations manager and also appointed U.K. public relations manager.
a32 Sir Reginald Rootes, chairman of the Rootes Group manufacturing division and deputy chairman of Rootes Motors, Ltd.. together with Mr. Derek Curling and Mr. W. Elsey (respectively a director of the export division and head of Group sales promotion), are to go to Moscow for the British Trade Fair.
Mr. Henry Hahn, export manager of York Trailer Co., Ltd., has recently returned from an extensive tour of the Middle East area.
Mr. A. E. Brewer, Brewers Motor Services, Caerau, has been re-elected chairman of the South Wales Area of the Passenger Vehicle Operators Association, Ltd., and Mr. H. F. Hill, C. G. Hill and Sons (Tredegar), Ltd., is vice-chairman.
Mr. R. C. Moore, recently retired general manager of Sheffield transport department, has been presented with a bureau by the office and engineering staff of the department. He has also received a cheque from the British Transport Commission, which he served as manager of the Sheffield Joint Omnibus Committee.
Mr. Alan Collinson, competitions manager to Ferodo, Ltd., for seven years until 1956. and latterly manager, for the replacement sales department at Chapelen-le-Frith, has become the company's district manager in Leeds, following the retirement of Mr. F. Booth. Mr. K. Ravenhill has been appointed Ferodo replacement sales manager. Mr. F. A. Mortimer has bee reappointed honorary secretary of tt Tunbridge Wells sub-area of the Kos Haulage Association.
Mr. John R. Mitchell has bee appointed technical representative ft the Sheffield area for Crofts (Engineer Ltd., Thornbury, Bradford.
Mr. L. A. C. Fuller has been appoints to the Board of Taskers of Atxlov4 (1932), Ltd. He took up his position ; assistant to the managing director May 1.
Obituary
We record with deep regret the deatl of Mr. Duncan Carmichael, Mr. Dough S. Hinchcliffe, Mr. Edmund R. Marti Mr. F. G. Couch, Mr. George MacAult and Mr. E. L. Oglethorpe.
Mr. Carmichael, of William Carmicha Ltd.. Glasgow, was 65. He was a form, chairman of the Road Haulage Associ tion Scottish Area and former memb, of the national council.
Mr. Hinchcliffe, head of the firm ; J. F. Hinchcliffe and Sons, Ltd., coat proprietors and haulage contractor Penistone, was 50.
Mr. Martin, director and secretary J. Martin and Sons (Southborough), Lk removal contractors, of Tunbridge Wel and Sevenoaks, Kent, was 84.
Mr. Couch, who had been director ar sales manager of Transport Vehicl, (Daimler), Ltd., until his retirement 1953, since which time he had been consultant to that company, was 86. 1joined Daimler's in 1911, and was we known to passenger-vehicle operators.
Mr. MacAuley, who was 64, sv; responsible, at the Treasury, fl co-ordinating Government traffic. Iwas seconded in 1958 from his positi( as Controller of Transport, Ministry Works. He was for several years active member of the national organizit committee of the Lorry Driver of tl Year competition.
Mr. Oglethorpe was managing direct, of The Duramin Engineering Co., Lt He had been ill for some time, b seemed to be making an excelle recovery. Mr. Oglethorpe, who was 7 founded Duramin in 1919 at Dartfor Kent, and was a pioneer in the use light alloy for bodybuilding purpose introducing it in 1921.
