Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AT a sitting of the Western Traffic

Commissioners, last week, Mr. A. F. Nicholson, the chairman, expressed his approval of the formation of a local coach owners' association in Ilfracombe. He thought that the association was particularly fortunate in having Mr. Evan R. Wood as its secretary and solicitor.

Mr. Nicholson hoped that everyone would co-operate in abolishing the practice of paying commissions to hotel and boarding-house proprietors for coach bookings. If there was any difficulty in this connection the Commissioners would consider issuing a licence condition to prevent such bookings.

He was pleased that the association had reached an agreement relating to the charges to be made for coatract work in the district. He also impressed upon Ilfracombe Urban. District Council the need for constructing a bus station.

MOVE FOR CO-ORDINATION.

LANCASTER CORPORATION has decided to accede to a request by the Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., for a conference with regard to the proposed coordination of bus services in Lancaster and district. The services of Mr. John Barnard, tramways engineer and manager to Bolton Corporation, have been retained to advise the corporation.

SMALL OPERATOR WINS.

WHEN Mr. G. A. Cross applied to the Sonthern Traffic Commissioners for the renewal of the licence for his Ellson-Gosport Ferry service, incor porating with it the service operated over the same route by Mr. H. Mason, the Gosport and Fareham Omnibus Co. alleged that under a clause of the Gosport and Fareham Omnibus Act other bus businesses in Gosport were precluded from changing hands.

The Commissioners over-ruled this objettion and it is stated that the company is appealing against the decision.

ABERDEEN TO BUILD BUS BODIES?

ABERDEEN Town Council has de

cided to consider the advisability of seeking powers, in the next Provisional Order, to build bus bodies in its own workshop. If necessary, the co-operation of other Scottish municipalities may be sought to support Aberdeen in its claim.

The local authority already possesses powers to build tramcar bodies, and it is considered to be an anomaly that it should be prevented from constructing motorbus bodies.

REVISED FARES TO MAHE GOOD DEFICIT.

AT a recent meeting of the transport

committee of Northampton Corporation, the transport manager reported that, owing to the increased cost of petrol and to falling revenue, it was necessary for the financial position for the ensuing year to be reviewed. Operating costs were as low as possible, and increased revenue must be provided to make good the anticipated deficit.

The committee considered all items of expenditure where saving might be effected, and decided upon a scheme for the revision of fares. NEW LEYLAND TITANIC OILENGINED BUSES IN LONDON.

THREE Leyland Titanic six-wheeled

buses have been put to work on the well-known 536 route from Highgate Station to Elmers End, by the City Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd., London.

A Leyland eight-litre direct-injection compression-ignition engine is fitted, and, so far, the fuel consumption is a gallon per 8.5 miles. This, although good for a six-wheeled 62-seater bus, will probably be improved, in the near future, by the fitting of a slightly higher back-axle ratio.

It is about 12 months since the City concern commenced to operate a compression-ignition engine in one of its Leyland vehicles, and, during this period, the bus has averaged 11.5 m.p.g. on Pratts Diesel oil.

The Leyland Titanics which have just gone tato service have handsome bodies built by Christopher Dodson (1930), Ltd., London. N.W.10, to the City Motor Omnibus Co.'s specification.

JOINT COACH AND BOAT TRIP.

and tours for which the Eastern Counties Omnibus Co., Ltd., is seeking a licence from the Eastern Traffic Commissioners is a combined coach and boat trip, starting from Yarmouth.

MORECAMBE'S ILLEGAL ROUTE.
