Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE Royal Commission on Transport, in its final report (paragraph 332), states: "We believe that it would be greatly to the advantage of the road-haulage industry itself if it were placed on an organized basis."

The Long Distance Road Haulage Committee of Inquiry offered some very striking evidence to the Royal Commission as to the disorganized state of the industry, and the expressed conclusion of the Commission only confirms what for some time has been in the minds of those who are closely connected with the industry.

I am one of those who believe that there is a great future for long-distance road haulage, but before this the industry must put its own house in order.

The sponsors of the evidence to the Royal Commission have given very careful consideration to this matter, and are much concerned as to the present unsatisfactory condition of the industry.

After careful investigation, and bearing in mind all the present factors, a Long Distance Road Haulage Association has now been formed, and this association will seek to foster and deal with the particular needs of the industry. A great deal can be accomplished by getting together, and this truth has been aptly demonstrated during the past few months.

An industry such as this can never hope to achieve much in the way of success so long as it comprises merely a large and uncontrollable number of scattered units, and for this reason I earnestly appeal to all to become members of the new association.

My own experience has shown me that the trader seeks for and desires road haulage on a well-organized basis, and many traffic managers in responsible positions have told me that they much prefer an economic rate with a guaranteed service to a cut rate with no promise of reliability.

Let our motto be, then: "Get together and organize."
