Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• West country recovery systems maker Brimec has called in the receiver leaving 50 employees facing an uncertain future at its Bristol manufacturing site.

Touche Ross has been appointed receiver but, as CM went to press, it was unable to confirm whether a buyer would be sought for the firm which has been trading since 1964.

Industry sources say that Brirnec has suffered from the slump in the construction industry which hit demand for its range of plant transporter slide beds. It has also attempted to win business at exceptionally competitive rates at a time when volumes have been hit in the recovery sector.

It is believed the company's diversification has stretched its resources during difficult times. Two years ago the company launched a lie-flat wheel-lift system for car recovery to prevent damage to modern vehicles. At the time sales director Richard Roller said: The Lo-Lift will set the standard for a wide range of recovery organisations."
