▪ British Gas Northern contractor Kenton Utilities has bought 30 Mercedes-Benz 208D vans from County Durham-based dealer Bell Truck Sales.
Sales rise
• Commercial vehicle sales in Western Europe will improve slightly this year with a 0.8% rise to 1.62 million units, says the Economist Intelligence Unit. It expects sales to reach 1.76 million in 1993.

• Competition in the Scotland-to-London express parcels market has been stepped up by Pony Express, with a £20 (ex-VAT) same-day service between Glasgow and the capital.
Irish boss
• Parcels giant United Parcel Service has recruited Stephen Kelly as managing director for its Irish operation. Kelly comes from B&I Ferries, where he was group marketing manager.
