/ In a move to enter the contract distribution market Europa European Express has taken on a warehouse and is about to start recruiting customers.
Europa, which specialises in heavier weight express consignments throughout Europe, opens the 6,500m warehouse in Erith. Kent this May and is looking for up to 30 contracts to operate from it. Europa managing director Malcolm Smith is recruiting a commercial manager to generate marketing plans and tender for profitable business.
Smith says: "With 1993 approaching we've decided to go more in the logistics direction, offering unpacking, re-packing, stock control, delivery and pricing." Europa has attacked the express market aggressively — turnover has increased on average by 20% a year from 1989 reaching £49m in 1990.
