A GAS MASK is among the items found recently on a South Yorkshire bus. Was it a 43-yearold vehicle that had not been cleaned since the war, or don't they yet know in Yorkshire that peace broke out in 1945?
"The thousands of items [left on buses] give a fascinating insight into the private lives of the people of South Yorkshire," says the Passenger Transport Executive. They do indeed.
"There's the 21/2 sacks of boots and shoes, the four sacks of coats and jackets, the five sacks of shirts, blouses and underwear, the wig and the jock strap. Are these people all walking about the country naked, hairless and unsupported?" asks the PTE incredulously.
