IT IS FITTING that the man who did so much for economical transport by land and water throughout the world should be commemorated in a new twomile £8.9m road that will speed traffic around Peterborough and promote further economy. The new highway, which will complete the city's ring road, is to be named Frank Perkins Parkway.
Concrete relief friezes designed by Francis Gomila, a local artist, to illustrate a section through a Perkins diesel engine will decorate a bridge across the River Nene. Construction will be completed in two years' time.
