BL chairman Sir Austin Bide, has been awarded the British Institute of Management Gold Medal for 1982 for his outstanding achievements in the management of the Glaxo Group of food manufacturers, of which he also holds a chairmanship.

Sir Austin joined the research department of Glaxo Laboratories in 1940. In 1954 he became deputy secretary and then secretary in 1959.
