A WOMAN HAULIER called before the Northern LA at adjourned (CM February 27) disciplinary proceedings last week was told that there had been no complaints about maintenance and in all the circumstances he proposed to record a warning.

Mr B. J. Foster told Mrs M. R. Kennedy, trading as Rose Hill Trucking Company, Birtley, Co. Durham, that it appeared she was not overseeing the business as she should and was more involved in her other concern, warehousing.

Denying this, Mrs Kennedy said she was proud of her vehicles and paid great attention to them. Concerning convictions, she said that one for overloading at Nottingham in 1974 was the fault of a Southampton customer and as soon as this was known a vehicle was sent down to tranship the excess weight. One for drivers hours in 1973 was the result of a driver returning home without authority and he was instantly dismissed.

The conviction for an axle overload at Gateshead in 1975, she said, was not the result of any intention to overload as the transport manager had used two vehicles for a load which could have been put on one; it was unfortunately badly distributed.

Mrs Kennedy added she had now obtained more work for the fleet and proposed to put two more vehicles on the road, bringing 'the total specified to five vehicles and four trailers out of the 10 vehicles and seven trailers authorised.

Mrs Kennedy said she had run the business for nine years and was deeply involved. "It has become a way of life," she added.
