THREE QUESTIONS ON DENATIONALIZATION

THREE questions on denationaliza

tion procedure have been tabled by Mr. Howard Johnson, M.P., for reply by the Minister of Transport next Wednesday. They follow points raised by Mr. Johnson in the House of Commons on March 1.

The first question is whether the Minister will introduce legislation amending the 1953 Act, so that the British Transport Commission and the Disposal Board will be compelled to invite fresh tenders from persons making the highest offers before re-offering transport units in reject lists.

The B.T.C. and the Board should, Mr. Johnson will maintain, require in all future forms of tender, information as to whether or not the tendcrers have previously been engaged in haulage, In his third question, Mr. Johnson will point out that because of the operation of Clause 3 of the Act, buyers • of units are unable to substitute, under special A licences, new vehicles for old if they are slightly heavier than the older models, He will ask that legislation should be introduced to give the Licensing Authorities some latitude in the matter.
