Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• T N view of the many depressing statements 1-made by politicians and others regarding the future of this country, and in particular of its road transport, the optimistic note struck by the Minister of Transport in a speech made last week before a well-known association is distinctly encouraging, and during this speech he made references to some Matters of vital interest to users of commercial vehicles.

•• One of these was the question of Weak bridges. Many of these cannot bear loads of more than '5 tons, and heavy vehicles, being thus debarred from using them, are frequently compelled to make detours of 20 to 30 miles.

The railway or canal companies cannot reasonably be expected to put these into condition to carry the heavier loads which are now prevalent, but it has been realized that whole tracts of territory in this country are practically sterilized to commercial vehicles through these weak bridges. At long last, after protractedand very difficult negotiations, all the interested parties are in accord and an agreed Bill has received its second reading and will almost certainly be passed this session.
