Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I WOULD LIKE to draw your attention and that of your readers to an error in the content of an advertisement appearing in Commercial Motor and other automotive journals.

In the offending

advertisement, a double-page spread, for IVECO trucks, the headline states the relative power output of the two 3rd Generation Tractor units which IVECO offers on the UK market. The Fiat model 109.30 which, the advertisement announces, develops 299bhp and the Magirus model 268bhp. These figures, although correct in themselves, are not a direct comparison — the 299bhp of the Fiat engined unit is a gross BSAU141a rating, whilst the Deutz is a net derived installed power. If the comparison is to be accurate, it should read Fiat engine 299bhp, Magirus (Deutz

engine) 288bhp, both gross to BSAU141a.

Although we have no control over the marketing policy of IVECO this statement, which is totally misleading, gives readers the impression that the Magirus unit is considerably underpowered, which is not the case.
