The British Standards Institution has published a revision of BS 228, the Standard for roller chains and chain wheels, which has now been brought in line with the relevant recommendation of the International Organisation for Standardization and is written in metric units.

The revised Standard specifies 15 sizes of transmission chain, varying in pitch from 8.0mm to 114.3mm, each in single, duplex and triplex types. Design details of suitable chain wheels are also included. Other information provided includes chain measuring loads and chain breaking loads (which are also shown in pound and inch units in an appendix for information purposes) and marking requirements.
