• Although Teesside Corporation Transport made a profit of £13,000 during the year ended March 31 (1969: £32,000 loss), the undertaking's financial position is still causing serious concern. The borough treasurer, Mr J. B. Woodham, reported that there was only £3,000 in the reserve fund, the number of passengers carried had declined in the past year by 4 per cent, and the last fare increase was not likely to produce a solution. The transport manager, Mr W. C. Wilson, added that shortage of staff held up the full operation of services and much of the short running took place at times when higher revenue could be obtained. The Transport Act had also had an adverse effect. He added, however, that remedial measures should be considered later when the outcome of another wage rise for busmen was settled. Mr Wilson said that Teesside's fare structure was low compared with the rest of the country.
• Following a satisfactory trial period, Richmond (Yorks) Rural Council is to subsidize bus services at Swaledale and Teesdale for a further six months. It has also decided to subsidize the Barningham-Darlington service operated by Barnard Castle Coaches.
