A NUMBER of innovations for Old
ham Corporation passenger transport department are included in 10 recently delivered double-decker buses—Leyland P1)3/5 chassis with Roe composite 73-scat forward-entrance bodies. The buses are the first forward-entrance vehicles to be introduced by the department,and the first with two-pedal control, the Leyland pneumoc,yclic gearbox being employed. Also new to the department are an all-plastics interior finish with Warerite ceiling and lining panels, and Darvic window finishers, and fluorescent lights with Philips ballasts and B.M.A.C. enclosed fittings. Seats are fitted with stainless steel double top rails and are trimmed with moquette in the lower saloon and leathercloth in the upper; the specification includes two translucent Perspex panels in the upper saloon roof.
Externally the most prominent feature is the new design of destination and route number indicator, supplied by Transport Engineering and Equipment Ltd., which provide considerably more information than was previously possible. Whilst the current new buses embody the " conventional " front engine position, the next 10 buses on order for Oldham will he rear-engined Atlanteans.
