Keywords : Marples, G

NAR. MARPLES this week refused to in take steps to discourage lorry traffic on main roads out of _large towns during the rush hour. He told Mr. John Parker (Lab., Dagenham), who made the suggestion, that the inconvenience and loss of time which resulted from the use of these roads at rush hours themselves discouraged movement which could take place earlier or later. Mr. Marples was also asked to direct that Traffic Commissioners should give reasoned decisions in all cases they heard. In support of this request Mr. Richard Kelley (Lab,. Don Valley) mentioned the observations of the inspector in the appeal of Wonderlust Tours against the decision of the Yorkshire Commissioners. The Minister would not agree to this step and said he had dealt with the point in his 'decision letter on the appeal.

Still no definite date for nevi, anti-fume controls--that was the !" progress report" Oven to the Commons by Mr. Marples. He told a questioner that he was not yet able to say when he might wish to propose an amendment of the regulations governing the emission of smoke from diesel vehicles.
