In connection with the I.M.E.A. Annual Convention, being Mid at Edinburgh this week, an exhibition of electric vehicles was organized by the Electric Vehicle Committee of Great Britain, Ltd., and the companies which • have representative types of vehicle on view are:—Metropolitan-Viekers Electrical Co., Ltd.; A. E. Morrison and Sons, Ltd.; Murphy Cars and Trucks, Ltd.; Electricars, Ltd.;• and Partridge, Wilson and Co., Ltd.

Several of the battery manufacturers are also -represented, these including Britannia Batteries, Ltd.; D.P, Battery Co., Ltd.; Tudor Accumulator Co., Ltd.; and the Young Accumulator Co. (1929), Ltd., whilst a rectifier is shown by the Westinghouse Brake and Signal Co., Ltd.

The Law Simply Explained.

A revised memorandum (G.5 /7) explaining in clear terms the licensing and enforcement provisions of the Road and Rail Traffic Act has been issued by the Ministry of Transport. It constitutes a valuable guide to the law for the small operator.

A Fireproof Van for Conveying Cash.

Liverpool Corporation has recently placed in service the Harrier cash van illustrated on this page, which is to be used for the collection of revenue froin buses and trams and to convey the money to headquarters.

The body is of particular interest in that it is fireproof, being constructed entirely of metal and asbestos. Designed and built by Messrs. Bonallack and Sons, Cable Street, London, E.1, it is 12 ft. long and 6 ft. wide and high, the steel framework being welded and suitably stayed and gusseted. The sides, bulkhead, roof and doors are all built of double steel sheets with an asbestos insertion, and the sliding inspection window behind the driver is embedded with wire. The van is finished in Syntholux green and cream enamel and is of smart appearance. The CK3 chassis on which the body is mounted is a shortwheelbase model (9 ft. 3 ins.), with a turning circle of 33 ft. It has a 60 b.h.p. six-cylindered engine.

Increasing Overseas Demand for British Oilers.

. A summary of the orders received from overseas by Leyland Motors, Ltd., during May reveals a total of well over 100 vehicles for transport concerns in Australia, Sweden, New

Zealand, South Africa, South America, India and the Irish Free State. An interesting feature of the orders is that oil engines have been specified in 93 per cent, of the machines, whilst 23 per cent, are to be equipped with hydraulic transmission.

New Brown Bros. Depot.

Brown. Brothers, Ltd., the wellknown factor, of Great Eastern Street, London, E.C.2, has completed its new building in Huntingdon Street, Nottingham, and will be in occupation of it from Monday next DRIVERS' CONVICTIONS IMPERIL EMPLOYER'S LICENCE.

Last week Mr_ Henry Riches, Northern Scotland Licensing Authority, gave a stern warning• to Messrs. Watt and Davidson, 134, Victoria Road, Aberdeen, who applied for permission to substitute a new vehicle for an old one Mr. Riches said he noted that a number of convictions had been recorded against several of the firm's drivers. If they could not keep within the 'terms of the Acts, the question would arise as to whether the applicants were fit to have a licence at all.

" I will not allow you to shirk your responsibilities," said Mr. Riches. " It is either lack of supervision, or your men are being asked to do more than they can reasonably do. I am going to grant your application, but take

this as a warning. It is a serious warning."

A Fire Tender for Airport Service.

We reproduce on this page an illustration of a fire tender based on the Ford VS car chassis, which has recently been supplied to Airports, Ltd., for use at Gatwick and Gravesend airports. The chassis has a wheelbase of 9 ft. 4 ins, and the engine, transmission, brakes and suspension are identical with those of the Ford V8 car. A special fire-tender body is mounted, its equipment including chemical extinguishers for dealing with petrol fires, whilst a drag hook, with wire extension, for urgent salvage work is also included.

Engine.reconditioning Specialists' Expansion.

I3oneham and Turner, Ltd., has a new works in course of erection at Nottingham Road, Mansfield. These will sfiortly be completed and it is proposed to move the plant, in stages, from the existing factory in Duke Street, Mansfield, so that production will not be impaired. The new factory is being built as a result of the increasing demand for the company's engine-reconditioning services. £63 FINES FOR HOURS OFFENCES.

Fines totalling 263, and 25 5s costs, were imposed, at Newport, on Monday, on the Newport Co-operative Industrial Society, Ltd„ which was summoned on 21 counts for breaches of the Road Traffic Act. Twenty of the summonses related to permitting excessive hours of driving, and one was for not seeing that a driver had suffitient continuous rest.

The prosecution alleged a serious lack of supervision by the society. There were 79 outstanding summonses to be taken into account.

For the defendant it was stated that much of the legally denominated driving time was, in fact, spent on the premises, in waiting for orders. The whole matter had now been organized.

A number of drivers of the company was fined 7s. 6d. on summonses for excessive hours of driving, and 7s. 6d. on each outstanding summons for such offences. One driver had 17 agreed outstanding summonses against him.

P.O. Takes Over Transport.

All existing mail-carrying contracts held by private firms in Skye have been cancelled, Post Office vans having been brought into service. Many of the districts outside Portree now have an evening delivery, and a daily service replaces twice-weekly deliveries.

Qualified Foreman Required.

A foreman is required for a large commercial-vehicle garage. He must be a strict disciplinarian, and practical knowledge is essential. A good salary will be paid to a suitable man. Letters should be addressed "Foreman," care of the Editor,
