• Cramlington independent Target Travel, currently expanding its limited stop services out of Newcastle, is facing fierce competition from Northumbria Motor Services, which has cut its fares and is using all-white buses similar to those of Target Travel.
NMS has matched Target's fares and frequencies on the services to Blyth and Ashington, and has now introduced a task-force of white buses.
Target claims that its expansion follows an attack on its taxi services in Cramlington by NMS minibuses, but says that its passengers are staying loyal as they realise that low fares will only remain as long as there is competition.
