Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Plans have been drawn up for a £3.7m facelift for Victoria Coach Station to improve passenger facilities and to attract new operators to use the station at off-peak times.

Proposals include more seating in new glass-walled departure lounges, information display screens, better station signposting, improved catering outlets and additional, more accessible toilets.

Ian Harkness, chairman of the London Transport subsidiary Victoria Coach Station, says he is keen to attract more business. "The station may always seem packed but there is actually surplus capacity — it goes in peaks and troughs." says LT.

The local community and coach passengers will be consulted before the scheme is finalised. LT hopes to start the renovation early next year.

The London Regional Passengers' Committee is "happy that LT has faced up to the fact that it will be at Victoria for some time", although LRPC criticises the site for its poor onward access.

LT says is has not abandoned its long-term plan to find another London site for a longdistance coach depot but says it will still need Victoria "possibly for suburban services".
