Michael Hoperaft, director and general manager of Mitchell Cotts Transport Services Ltd, has become managing director of the company which is the principal operating subsidiary of Mitchell Cotts Transport Ltd. Mr Hoperaft has been with the company since 1972.

John Adamson has been appointed sales executive of SPD Distribution Ltd where he was previously deputy manager of the Bradford depot. Mr Adamson joined SPD from Associated Fisheries and Food six years ago. In his new position, he will be involved primarily in the North of England and Scotland.

Four members of Midland Red's staff have also retired — with 175 years of service to the company among them. Horace Cooper, the company's payroll superintendent, and Jeffrey Lomas, head of the private hire accounts department, have both retired with 50 years' service each. After 41 years, Tony Hamblin retires, having been responsible for bus advertising, while former chief engineer of the former Stratford Blue undertaking, has completed 34 years with the company.

Seddon Atkinson's marketing organisation has named Felix Finch, formerly manager of the Seddon Atkinson parts centre, as general sales manager. New district manager for the north is Mike Fairbrother, who was previously service manager. The new dis-, trict manager for the South will be named shortly.

Ray Sollett has succeeded Alan Clark as chairman of the Midland Road Development Group. Mr Sollett is chief . executive of Quinton Hazell Ltd, the Leamington Spa-based international motor component manufacturer and distributor. Mr Clark has been chairman for the last three years.

John Jenkins has joined the Edbro Group's Solid Waste Engineering Ltd as sales manager for the eastern counties. He was previously north-west regional sales manager for Anthony Carrimore (Sales) Ltd.

Renault Trucks and Buses have announced the appointment of Jean Laugel as finance director. Mr Laugel was already a director of Renault Trucks and Buses and of Renault Vehicules lndustriels subsidiaries in Belgium and Germany, and has now moved to London. Terry Nixon has assumed overall responsibility for Renault Trucks' only retail plant at Trafford Park, Manchester, where he has been made general manager. He joined the Renault group in 1976 as finance manager of the former Saviem UK.

Scotia OAF Trucks, main DAF dealer for Southern and Central Scotland, has named Ken Lawson as general sales manager_ He spent seven years with the Volvo distributor in the east of Scotland.
