THE Cummins turbocharged 14-litre engine, the NT240 or 250 Turbo, as Cummins prefers it to be called, first became available just over a year ago. Since then CM has tested the ERF and Seddon Atkinson tractive units fitted with this engine and found a marked improvement in fuel economy over the old naturally aspirated unit. In the Fodens Fleetmaster tractive unit the engine is matched to a direct-top gearbox and a Rockwell single-reduction rear axle. How does it compare with the competition?
