IN THE PAST the chairman of the National Freight Corporation has usually been called Bobbie Lawrence but with his knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours he will in future be known as Sir Robert. Sir Bobbie would hardly sound right.
His predecessor was known to everyone as Dan Pettit but on his knighthood he also expressed a wish to be addressed by his full christian name. He wanted not to be confused with the pedestrian-controlled passenger vehicle of earlier days. But somehow Dan fits him like a comfortable old jacket and he has not been able to cast it off.
