DAIHATSU has reached agreement on a further major programme of cooperation with the General Electric Company for research into electric vehicles.
The two companies have a joint £3.4m ($ 8m) 30-month contract under which Daihatsu will act in a consultative capacity and provide technical assistance in the development of batterypowered hybrid vehicles.
Both companies will report to the United States Department of Energy and the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
The contract is a direct result of a preliminary design study completed by the two companies in October 1979.
Daihatsu is already heavily involved in battery-powered vehicle production with total world sales (to April 1980) of over 4000 units.
